THE AMANXING RACE 3
Episode 11: CAN DO
DARWIN, AUSTRALIA TO PANAMA CITY, PANAMA

This is Darwin, Australia, capital of Australia's Northern Territory, and a city that is positioned to play a pivotal role in the Australia's future industrial growth and in the ongoing expansion of the entire AustralAsian region.

This pre-eminent port for the export of live cattle and an area that is fast becoming the region’s primary service and supply base for offshore and onshore oil and gas projects, was the tenth Pet Stop in a race around the world.

We’re eleven legs into the Amanxing Race 3, and killer fatigue is beginning to affect our Racers. Bella, always a sleepy cat, is exhausted and slept all twelve hours of the Darwin pet stop.

Ernesto snapped at Joey and Larry, who were trying to jump over his back. Even gentle Ibrahim was a little testy when Holly nipped at his feet in an attempt to “herd” him into the Pet Stop.

Koko, do you think…Oh dear, Koko is asleep, too, with Bella and Douglas! And Koko is signing “sleep” in her sleep!

Will Joey and Larry's antics continue to keep them in last place? And will the donkey team of Ibrahim and Omara be able to withstand the rigors of these final legs?

Ernesto and Fermin, who were the first to arrive at the Pet Stop in Darwin, will be the first to depart. They receive their clue:

Travel in a fried-out combie to Mindil Beach in Darwin.

They find their van, and Bella and Douglas follow them to the beach.

At the beach, teams find a Road Block:

Who can can?

In this Road Block, one team member must take part in an annual Darwin event: the Beer Can Regatta, in which teams construct boats made out of pop cans or beer cans and race them in the harbor. One team member will choose a boat and, with the help of a local skipper, float out and around a buoy. Upon their return to the beach, the teams will receive their next clues.

Douglas is the first into the harbor, followed by Fermin and Omara. Douglas sees a lot of Diet Coke cans and feels homesick. He gets help from a couple of local Aussie kids.

Fermin is having some trouble with this task, as his excessive weight is making the boat sink. He moos and moos.

Douglas and Omara reach the beach first and get their next clue:

Continue traveling in the fried-out combie to Ayers Rock and search for the clue at the foot of the Rock.

What the Racers don’t know is, that the clue will be held by a strange lady who makes them nervous.

Fermin is still falling behind as the corgis arrive, but this gives him some motivation and he helps paddle with his hooves and then he and Ernesto are on their way. They stop to watch as Monty heads out. As the bulls are leaving, the lemurs arrive and dance on the beach.

Several hours later, the cats and the donkeys arrive at Ayers Rock and are quite impressed by the size of this enormous monolith sacred to the local Aboriginal people.

Both teams set out in opposite directions around the base of the monument. The donkeys are the first to find the strange lady, who isn’t very strange at all but is Olivia Newton-John.

She gives them their clue:

Make your way to the Sydney Opera House.

Teams must sign up for one of two chartered bush planes to Sydney, Australia's largest city and, once they land, they must find their way to the world-renowned Sydney Opera House.

The donkeys, cats, and bulls get on the first plane; the corgis and lemurs get on the second, which leaves an hour later.

And there go Bella, Douglas, Ernesto, Fermin, and
Ibrahim and Omara, charging up the steps of the Sydney Opera House:

They get their next clue:

Fly to Panama City, Panama, and find the monument with the rooster in the Casco Viejo section of the city.

This historic area, the oldest city on the Pacific coast of the Americas, and once the home of the French during their attempts to construct the Panama Canal, is the Pet Stop for this leg of the race. The last team to check in here -- may be eliminated.

Bella thinks she’s going to get Chunky Chicken Feast and stops to think about that, allowing the bulls and donkeys to get a headstart back to the airport.

As so often happens with these international flights, all remaining teams get on the same flight to Panama City. When the flight lands, Holly notices
Alejandrito riding around and around on the baggage claim rack.

Alejandrito gives them their Fast Forward clue:

Go to the Palacio de las Garzas (Papace of Herons), the Presidential Palace.

The rest of the teams are trying to find the rooster monument, and of course, it’s first spotted by Bella – but what’s this? Larry Lemur wants to climb the monument?

At the Palacio de las Garzas, Monty and Holly are met by good ol’ Panama Red himself, Peter Rowan, with his white horse Mescalito.

“Welcome to Panama! Monty and Holly, you’re Team Number One. You’ve both received a trip to Costa Rica, which you can enjoy after the Race.”

A half-hour later, Bella and Douglas arrive, followed by the donkeys…but it’s the last dance for our furry sort of lemur friends, Joey and Larry, who arrive last and are told they have been eliminated from the Amanxing Race.
